Zoological name: The zoological name is Bubalus bubalis.
Distribution: In India, they are mainly restricted to Bastar region of Chhattisgarh and in some protected areas of Assam.
Habitat: Their ideal habitats include tall grass jungles and reed brakes in the neighbourhood of swamps. However, dry hard ground scattered with trees and grasses also makes the habitat of wild buffalo.
Behaviour: Wild buffaloes are exhibited in small herds of 10-15 animals comprising a bull, few breeding females and their young.
