Horse

They are maintained on a commercially prepared pellet diet. The amounts of diet to be fed to a captive horse, however, depend on many factors such as age, body weight, quality of diet and production status. A race horse requires more energy for maintenance. Gram, wheat, barley, hay, oats, maize, soybean meal, molasses etc. form the dietary ingredients. An adult animal requires 1 to 1.5 kg pelleted feed per 100 kg body weight. A good amount of hay should always be given to an adult animal. Vegetables and fruits may be supplied 0.5 to 1 kg daily. Captive Przewalski's horse may be given 500 g to one kg crushed oats and 1-1.5 kg pellets. Fresh lucerne crop and hay are also given.
