The koala is a herbivorous marsupial native to Australia. Koalas live almost entirely on the leaves of the eucalyptus tree. As 50 percent of these leaves consist of water, koalas hardly ever need to drink. In fact, the name koala means "no water" in the Dharuk language. The Dharuks were Aboriginal people who used to live in the area of present-day Sydney. Dingo, wallaby, and wombat are also Dharuk words. Koalas are slow-moving animals, with a low metabolic rate. They sleep up to eighteen hours each day. Dreaming of a koala is a sign that you need to slow down and be more patient. Frantic activity often produces fewer results than does slow, steady progress.
