Zoological name: The zoological name of mithun is Bos frontalis . They are semi wild in nature and can be maintained as tamed animals. They can be bred with cattle with some
limitations. There are two reported breeds: sally and gamba. Sally breed is known to be more productive while gamba breed is larger in size but less productive.
Distribution: Mithuns are distributed in north-east India.
Habitat: The live in the hilly regions. They prefer to live in cool forests ranging from 300 to 2700 meters altitude.
Reproduction: The female matures at three to four years of age and she usually gives birth to one calf yearly.
