Zoological name: There are many species of mongoose. The banded mongoose
(Mungos mungo), crab eating mongoose (Herpestes urua), Indian brown mongoose (H. fuscus), Egyptian mongoose (H.ichneumon), small Indian mongoose (H.javanicus) and broad-striped mongoose (Galidictis fasciata) are some well known species of mongoose.
Distribution: They are found in Africa, Asia and southern Europe.
Habitat: They inhabit in forest, cultivated areas, desert etc.
Physical feature: The body weight is attained up to 5 kg depending on the species. The hair is coarse and rather long. Unlike civets and genets, mongooses have no spots. There may be one, two, or three pairs of teats depending on the species.
