Otter
Habitat: Otters are truly amphibious. They are found in marshes, coastal
mangrove, swamps etc.
Reproduction: Otter attains puberty at about two years of age. The breeding
seasons starts during October or December in case of the Indian smooth coated
otter. The litter size is one to five young. The gestation period is usually 60-70
days.
Behaviour: They are docile and gregarious for most part of the year. Although
otters are nocturnal, they may come out during day time. Some . species are well
known for their manual dexterities. Otters are good swimmers and can travel
under water for sometime without surfacing for air.
Life span: In the wild, they are known to live up to twelve years.
