Reproduction: They build nests in cavities. However, parrots normally lay eggs
in an unlined hole in a tree. The average number per clutch ranges from three to
five round, glossy and white eggs. Both sexes share incubation although a few
females are reported to incubate eggs alone. The incubation period is 17-20 days.
The male and female feed the young by regurgitation like pigeon.
Behaviour: They are found in lar~e flocks. Parrots are serious pests of agricultural crops. The rose-ringed parakeet is one of the most destructive bird pests in agricultural crop. They are also very popular cage birds.
Life span: Parrots are known to live up to 50 years in captivity.
