Zoological name: There are nine species of wild pig. They include the wild boar (Sus serofa), the pigmy hog (5. salvanius), the bearded pig (5.barbatus), Celebes wild pigs (5. eelebensis), Javan warty pig (5. verrueosus), the warthog (Phaeoehoerus aethiopieus), the giant forest hog (Hyloehoerus meinertzhageni), the bush pig (Potamoehoerus poreus) and the babirusa (Babyrousa babyrussa).
Distribution: They are confined to Asia, Africa and Europe. These animals have also been introduced in other parts of the world. The wild pigs (5 .serofa) are distributed in many parts of India. The pigmy hog is confined to the state of Assam.
Habitat: The habitats in which the wild pigs are found include forests, woodlands and grasslands.
